Competitions

Have you got the dancing bug and you want to explore your potential? Dancing Bugz will take you all the way, from E grade to professional!

You can start off at a preliminary level whereby you don’t need expensive clothes etc, just nice smart gear, maybe matching outfits with your partner and usually basic steps suffice. You can learn just in classes or maybe a couple of private lessons to make you more prepared.

From preliminary the next grade is E which is the lowest of the five main grades. In E grade your steps are restricted to the basics which makes you a better dancer anyway.

D Grade is next and you have to perform two dances in each style at a higher level.

C grade is middle of the road and getting higher up the scale and you dance three dances in each competition, and start dancing some open work.

B grade is the second to top grade and you perform four dances in each style now and a very high standard is expected from you.

A grade Amateur is five dances Ballroom Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep; Latin American Samba, Rumba, Chachacha, Paso double, Jive, New Vogue (Sequence Dancing). There are a selection of dances chosen from and they vary somewhat.

Professional for teachers and teachers that earn a living from dancing and compete for $$$$s.

I guess this is the ultimate aim for most dancers to be the best of the best and yet they are still trying to get rid of some of their Dancing Bugz!

Professionals strive for excellence and perfection.

Advanced dancing is for the experienced dancer wishing to achieve excellence on the dance floor either at a high social or competitive level.

High level choreography, technique, performance and presentation hopefully with the “X” factor. Hard working amateur or professional wishing to further their dancing career.

Medallist is for individuals to dance for different levels, usually starting off with a bronze medal and going right through to Oscars or Supreme awards.

We believe a medal is a snapshot of where you are with your dancing.

Medallists usually dance with their teacher or an advanced dancer to enhance their chances of higher marks. They are examined by a fellow examiner of a Dancing Society and, as well as receiving a medal, receive a written critique from the examiner.

Stages could be, for example:
  • Bronze
  • Bronze Bar
  • Silver
  • Silver Bar
  • Gold Bars
  • Gold Crosses
  • Oscar or some other ultimate award - a great challenge for dancers
